Urban Tapas Ratchada
Urban Tapas is a 60-seat restaurant in Bangkok’s Ratchada area, combining an industrial architectural language with a lush urban garden.
The building is defined by a large folded, origami-inspired roof and an offset folded canopy extending over the outdoor seating area. Inside, the full height and geometry of the double-folded roof remain visible, creating a generous open volume above the restaurant.
At the centre of the space, a large bar counter accommodates the cold kitchen, coffee preparation and drinks, positioned directly opposite the oversized pivoting timber entrance door. Different pendant lights define the dining zones, with timber tables complemented by a more relaxed lounge area for drinks and coffee.
The material palette is deliberately raw and direct: polished concrete floors, exposed steel roof structures, raw OSB ceiling panels and visible brick walls. A solid brick volume at the rear accommodates the main kitchen and toilets, becoming part of the interior architecture rather than being concealed.
Outside, the restaurant extends into an urban sculpture garden, where graffiti walls, art and sculptures are integrated with tropical planting. The offset roof creates sheltered outdoor seating and connects the industrial interior with the surrounding landscape.
The result is an urban oasis with an industrial edge—a restaurant where architecture, art, landscape and food come together under one expressive folded roof.
Opening April 2027.
