Melchers & Co. Office – Bangkok

An open, light-filled office landscape blending contemporary efficiency with understated warmth.

The Bangkok office of C. Melchers & Co. spans 560 sqm and reflects a contemporary approach to workplace design—efficient, flexible, and people-focused. Framed by windows on three sides, the office is flooded with natural light and offers panoramic views of the Bangkok skyline.

The spatial concept revolves around a C-shaped internal circulation path, seamlessly connecting the front and rear entrances. Along this loop, a mix of private offices, team rooms, and open-plan workspaces are strategically positioned to foster both focused work and collaboration.

Punctuating this circulation path are two informal meeting islands—cozy bench seating areas tucked into the corners—designed to encourage spontaneous conversations and quick exchanges between colleagues. Adjacent to the main path are also two phone booths, restrooms, a medium-sized meeting room, and a large boardroom with skyline views—offering a balance of public and private interaction zones.

Near the main entrance lies the canteen and kitchen area, a lively hub where employees gather for coffee breaks or lunch. This social space, alongside the boardroom, defines the more public front of the office.

At the far end of the layout, the accounting department is placed in a quieter zone, while a dynamic creative space supports brainstorming sessions and town hall meetings.

Materialization

To enhance spatial quality and openness, the outdated T-bar office ceiling was removed, exposing the raw concrete slab and increasing the ceiling height in the open office areas. This architectural decision not only gives the space a more contemporary and airy feel but also emphasizes structural honesty.

Custom-designed LED panel lighting was introduced, providing a balance of direct and indirect illumination. These fixtures ensure a well-lit, ergonomic environment throughout the office, enhancing comfort and productivity.

In the canteen, a standout feature is the open acoustic ceiling—an element that merges function and design. It significantly improves sound performance while contributing to the office’s modern aesthetic, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

The material palette strikes a balance between professionalism and warmth. Dark blue carpets and cushions contrast elegantly with wooden elements, offering a grounded, sophisticated feel that still maintains a sense of comfort and approachability for employees.

The design of C. Melchers & Co.’s Bangkok office showcases how thoughtful spatial planning and material choices can create a workspace that’s efficient, inspiring, and uniquely adapted to its users.
