S33 Colonial Style House in Bangkok
Total refurbishment of a colonial-style house
Nestled in a quiet alley, this colonial-style house in Bangkok’s Phrom Phong area has been completely refurbished. The property is surrounded by lush trees, a garden deck, and a pool, providing a serene and tranquil environment. The façade retains its charming colonial character with elegant teak window frames, while the interior exudes a modern Scandinavian aesthetic with a subtle Asian influence.
On the ground floor, the open kitchen features an island with green cabinet doors and a wooden countertop, encased by display shelves. A wall cladding cleverly conceals the toilet door, enhancing the kitchen’s sleek design. The living and dining spaces are defined by three key elements: the kitchen, the staircase with a shoe cabinet, and the bookshelf. The bookshelf is designed for books, decorations, and a piano, and it divides the living room from the dining room. The multifunctional shoe cabinet doubles as a bench and extends into the first few steps of the staircase. Wooden slats along the stairway provide semi-privacy and subtly shield the staircase from the living area.
The second floor contains three rooms: a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, and an office. The master bedroom includes an open ensuite bathroom with a freestanding bathtub and a spacious shower featuring a waterfall showerhead. The office has a secret steep stairway hidden behind a bookshelf, leading to a newly constructed attic floor. This attic serves as a multifunctional space for gaming, reading, and relaxation, with a window set behind the original wood-carved ventilation grill of the roof, maintaining a seamless blend of old and new design elements.
This comprehensive refurbishment beautifully merges colonial charm with contemporary functionality, creating a serene and stylish retreat in the heart of Bangkok.
